Frequently Asked Questions

Question1

How do you register for a training class?

You can register on-line at the Center for Government Excellence Registration, Fees and Cancellation web page.  You can email your request to HR-TheCenter@rc-hr.com.  If you don't have access to email, please fax your request to the Center for Government Excellence at (951) 955-9727, or call the Center for Government Excellence directly at (951) 955-3255.

Question2

How often do I need to take the required courses (Sexual Harassment, Disciplinary Process training, etc.)?

For Managers/Supervisors:

  • The Sexual Harassment class should be taken within 6 months of hire/promotion and re-taken every two calendar years.
  • Disciplinary Process training should be taken within 6 months of hire/promotion and re-taken every 3 years.
  • Mandatory safety courses should be taken within six months of employment.  Once these courses have been taken, they do not need to be retaken unless otherwise directed (i.e. if you are involved in a traffic accident, you may be required to re-take Driver's Training.)
  • ADA/FEHA should be taken within 6 months of hire/promotion and re-taken every 2 years.
  • Workers' Compensation should be taken once within 6 months of hire/promotion.  It is recommended to be aware of changes in Workers' Compensation laws and re-take the course as needed.

For Non-Management Employees:

  • The Sexual Harassment class should be taken within 6 months of hire and re-taken every three calendar years.
  • Mandatory safety courses should be taken within six months of employment.  Once these courses have been taken, they do not need to be retaken unless otherwise directed (i.e. if you are involved in a traffic accident, you may be required to re-take Driver's Training.)
  • Disability Awareness should be taken within 6 months of hire and re-taken every 3  years.

Question3

Are Sheriff’s Department personnel required to take the County’s required courses? (i.e. Sexual Harassment prevention training, Disciplinary Process training, Workplace Violence)

The Sheriff’s Department has their own policies and are exempt from the County’s required training classes. However, if your department is not offering Sexual Harassment training, you should send your department heads, supervisors, and employees to a class to prevent any such incident from occurring. The Disciplinary Process training class is exempt for the Sheriff’s department because the Sheriff’s department has their own disciplinary process. However, supervisors of non-sworn Sheriff’s department personnel have been attending the Disciplinary Process Training classes offered through the County’s Human Resources’ Department.

Question4

Why didn't I receive a Certificate of Completion for a class that I have taken?

The Center for Government Excellence does not give out Certificates of Completion for mandatory training classes, such as Harassment Prevention or ADA/FEHA.

Question5

Why should I enroll in a training class?

The Center for Government Excellence provides mandatory training classes for County employees to help teach them the County’s policies. In addition, the Center for Government Excellence offers additional classes that help an employee to improve their skills in their current positions, and to prepare themselves for the demanding work they will face if/when they are promoted.

Question6

I'm interested in taking a class, but there are no classes offered at my job-site?

In certain instances, we do offer job-site training.  The Center for Government Excellence and the department requesting training must agree on a date to schedule the job-site training.  The department that requests the training is responsible for providing an adequate training facility and necessary equipment.  In addition, the department making the request is responsible for advertising the class to their employees, scheduling them, and providing the Center for Government Excellence with a list of names of employees that will attend the class.

Please Call Maria Plise at 951-955-3727 for more information.

Question7

How can I get a list of the courses my employees have taken?

As of July 2001 we are able to keep track of employee training. Email HR-TheCenter@rc-hr.com with your requests for employee attendance.
