Profession of Management

DURATION:  Five days

COURSE OVERVIEW:  
Today's environment of rapid change and continuous growth has created an even greater need for a common management approach that looks at management as a system, not a role.  The Profession of Management system looks at the critical skills and knowledge a manager needs to know in order to assure department and personal success.

The Profession of Management system is a proprietary system based on the timeless functions of leading, planning, organizing, and controlling, which subdivide into twenty unique but interrelated activities.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES:
Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Describe a logical, interactive management system.
  • Apply select management principles to new situations.
  • State the needs, work or activities, and desired results for any given management situation.
  • Describe the four management functions and their application to organizational performance.
  • Construct a Management Accountability Charter.
  • Develop an action plan using the tools provided in this course.
  • Measure both project progress and results using critical success factors.
  • Use a common organizational and management language.
  • Increase knowledge and appreciations of other work units within your organization.

SPECIFIC RESULTS:
As a result of this workshop, participants will have developed:

  • Management Accountability Charter that includes: A written mission, key initiatives, critical success factors, and key work
  • An action plan that includes: A process for developing your plan, a Manager's Journal that outlines first steps and acts as a guide for developing your action plan, a template for presenting your plan, tools and references that simplify developing your plan
  • Business acumen
  • Deeper knowledge of specific work units
  • Stronger relationships with other work units
